Optimising Urban Well-being

Delivering well-being in an urban environment presents big challenges. Ekkist are developing an urban housing typology which can be built as a standalone house or replicated as a terraced street. It is designed to be delivered in collaboration with developers and landowners to address the housing challenges which cities face today.

The design is based on the WELL Building Standard and Ekkist’s 6 health and well-being design principles, with a flexible, highly space-efficient layout, plentiful access to natural daylight and natural, non-toxic and renewable building materials. It can be delivered through modular off-site construction methods, improving build quality, reducing build times and ensuring the highest degree of sustainability.

We are looking to partner with developers and housing associations to deliver this as an innovative solution to changing housing needs.

Our design approach focuses on creating a healthy indoor environment through extensive research and focus on material selection, an effective ventilation strategy and the correct balance of heat and humidity, so that no matter what goes on outside the home, the interior always remains a haven of clean air and tranquility, supporting individuals’ and families’ health and well-being.
